We Read in Moments of Time

I took some time to re-read my previous posts (from the earlier days I kept this blog/site) and it has been interesting to reflect on growth and changes that have happened over the years. For instance, I am no longer a Christian. (And yet being a Christian, then, did not stop me from loving The Song of Achilles – a male/male romance.) It is interesting to wonder how I, now, might change my views about the books I read then.

It made me happy to read about the joy so many of these books provided and the freedom with which I expressed that joy. I fear my new self is far more cynical and less joyful than my previous self. I am less romantic and far more interested in the gritty reality of life – but I also weep at picture books where kind crayons befriend an outcast crayon. So maybe not quite as embittered and different as I imagine sometimes. At least I hope.
