“This is so weird.” – Me, about 1,000 times while reading the first quarter of Black Leopard, Red Wolf by Marlon James. And it is. So weird. And the writing style definitely takes some getting used to. (And also James is blunt with his writing. I did not find it to be gratuitous, but I might be a more open-minded reader than the average bear.)
I was highly anticipating an African fantasy and was not disappointed. I am eagerly awaiting his next installment so I can feel betrayed (haha). Also, Marlon James is Jamaican, and it is so much fun to listen to his super rad accent! ❤ I’ve picked up some of his other books, and I’m eager to see if I will enjoy them as well.

I really enjoyed Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller. And while I HIGHLY anticipated the release of Circe, I put off reading it. Because I’m silly. It was highly enjoyable. I love mythology and Miller weaves such an interesting tale.

I absolutely loved The Ghost Map until the last two chapters. And then, I was so annoyed that I dropped my rating from 5-stars to 3.5-stars. But I’ve had a bit of distance and now remember it a bit more fondly. So, it is on my favorites list, and I heartily recommend it (excepting the last chapter – skip it and you can just keep loving the book, haha). The book is about John Snow and the Broad Street pump. It is easy to read and quite enjoyable, even as Johnson describes excrement in great detail. My favorite aspect of the book is its interdisciplinary nature. It’s rooted in history, but demonstrates how many factors affected the course of events.

I thoroughly enjoyed myself while reading My Lady Jane. What a fun, light-hearted, and bizarre read. 🙂

I am reading these like they are candy. So much fun and silliness. I don’t expect these would appeal to everyone, but I am super duper excited that the final installment is projected for release in November. My birthday month. Happy birthday to me! 😀
