I spent a lot of June in a reading slump. I started too many books, but I just couldn’t commit. I had no 5-star reads, and only two 4-4.5 star reads, so it was pretty disappointing. I hope July proves to be better!

4-4.5-Star Reads
Foolish Hearts: This is the second book by Emma Mills that I’ve really enjoyed. This story had a quiet way of capturing my emotions and I ended up with all the feels.
Words on Bathroom Walls: I am not sure how (if at all) accurate this portrayal of schizophrenia is, but I found the story quite compelling. I loved Adam and appreciated his journey through the book.
Disappointing Read

Girl Made of Stars: “I need Owen to explain this. Because yes, I do know that Owen would never do that, but I also know Hannah would never lie about something like that.” Based on this quote, I was intrigued. I expected a deeper character analysis focused around the accusation. Instead, this “main” plot served more to draw out circumstances the main character faced previously. (Does that sound vague enough? I’m trying not to add spoilers. 🙂 ) This book is a case of trying to accomplish too much. Focusing on the main character and her previous experiences alone would have been more effective.
