Wrap-Ups

May Wrap-Up

I had my slowest reading month yet this year.  I am still recovering from a cold that knocked me off my feet.  I usually read a lot when I was sick, but I could not get my brain and eyes to cooperate.  The books I read were generally pretty good though, so I had an enjoyable reading month!

Five-Star Read

Such a delightful and quirky read.  The format of the novel and the nature of the characters allows the reader to explore war-time themes without being overwhelmed with darkness and sadness.  I loved the characters, the setting, and the format!  I am so happy they are making a movie so I can enjoy this story again in a new medium.

4.5-Star Reads

A Court of Frost and Starlight: I love this series.  I love Rhys (and Feyre with Rhys) and their friends.  I was very excited to take a peek into their world again.  🙂  I knew this was meant to be a “bridge” novella, so I wasn’t disappointed by the length or lack of a dynamic plot.  Sarah J. Maas writes books I enjoy and this was no exception.  And, it accomplished its goal of making me super impatient for the next one!

Dread Nation: The book’s description drew me in, and I was not disappointed.  I love how the created world allows the author to explore various issues in a unique way.   I adored the main character.  I often find female protagonists annoying or okay at best, but I really enjoyed Jane and her perspective.  Goodreads suggests this is the first in a series, and I will definitely read another if that is true!  🙂

Four-Star Reads

To Kill a Kingdom:  A fun, but somewhat darker siren book.  I liked both the main characters and appreciated their consistency and development.

Words in Deep Blue: I enjoyed a lot about this book.  I loved the bookstore setting.  I love reading about relationships between people who have “history.”  It’s a favorite “trope.”  I was also affected by the minor characters and their stories.  Lots of feels in this one.

Women & Power:  I found the essays to be thought-provoking and interesting.  The hubs and I had a lot of discussions after I finished, which is always a nice “perk” after finishing a book.  I am looking forward to reading SPQR.
