Wrap-Ups

April Wrap-Up

I read a lot of slightly above average books.  I read one book that I loved and two that I really liked.  And I also read about a million silly romance books this month.  🙂

My Only 5-star Read

Such a delightful read.  My daughter asked for this.  So when I saw it on Book Outlet, I picked it up for her.  But I read it first.  🙂  And I’m so glad I did.  This is a hopeful little tale, written from the perspective of the wish tree.

Four-Star Reads

The Complete Persepolis: I especially enjoyed the first half of Persepolis.  The protagonist learns a great deal from reading, examples from society, and from the authority figures in her life.  The second part becomes more personal and less historically minded.  Overall, I appreciated the opportunity to learn about Iranian culture and living in war-torn Iran.

Mistborn – The Final Empire:  I’m not sure what to say yet.  But this books feels solid and grounded, which I liked a lot.

3.5-Star Reads

Alex, Approximately:  A sweet YA romance.

Gunslinger Girl:  A fun western dystopia.  I enjoyed the characters, the plot, and the ending.  A fun read.

Children of Blood and Bone: An enjoyable fantasy that reads like an adventure.  I particularly liked Inan’s character.

Illuminae: Science fiction is not a favorite genre, and this book reminded me why.  But overall I was entertained, and I definitely enjoyed the variation in format.
